Greetings!

Welcome to Words to Fill a Page! I am a college student based in the United States who frequently jumps over the large pond separating California from the islands of Japan. I created this blog to keep a track of my activities as well as to (hopefully) begin to engage in dialogue with people I meet over the years.

I’ve been interested in writing for a long time, but have never tried to seriously showcase my own literature until reading various works of the late Natsume Sōseki. It is my most sincere hope that you will find my written expressions engaging and thought-provoking.

My goals include:

• Posting poetry (both English and Japanese) with explanations to their meaning
• Retelling stories from my life that have impacted me significantly
• Showcasing interesting content of any genre

日本の経験について

私は中3年のときに日本に興味を持ち始めました。姉妹都市のおかげで毎年行われる短期ホームステイに参加させてもらい、そのたった一週間の経験をきっかけに日本のことが学びたいと思ってきました。そして、高校を卒業し、ロータリー交換留学生として青森県のある高校に一年も通わせてもらいました。

留学の間、たくさんの経験ができたが、前半はカルチャーショックの日々が耐えられないほど長く続いていました。結局日本語を上達するモチベーションとなりましたが、本当に挫折の多い時期でもあったのです。

現在となって、自分の好むエッセイや詩を日本語でも書こうかなと思ってきたのは日本語力に自信を持つようになったからです。間違いやミスが多いかもしれませんが、優しく教えていただけると幸いです。日本語が話せる方々、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
